State President
Hi Virginia TSA! My name is Astrid Bockhorst, and I’m a junior at Abingdon High School. I am so excited to serve as your president, and I am confident that we as a delegation can make this year one of the greatest ever! This will be my 6th year in TSA, and over the years I have taken many leadership opportunities in the organization, just recently serving as your state Parliamentarian parliamentarian. As a Parliamentarian, I wrote and compiled many parliamentary procedure resources, as well as serving on many committees, and much more, and I am excited to put in even more work into my role as President. As President, I want to help everyone understand what’s going on in every aspect of the organization. I also want to grow the communication within the organization and reach out to schools without TSA to expand the organization as well. My favorite TSA competition is Chapter Team, but I also do video events.
Outside of TSA, I am a member and section leader of the marching, concert, and jazz bands respectively, where I play various saxophones and bassoon. I am the captain of my school’s dive team (if you want to see fail videos I have excellent ones), a member of the scholastic bowl team, and a member of the indoor and outdoor soccer teams. Additionally, I am a regional officer in FBLA, and have competed at the national level in that organization. My favorite subject is math, and outside of school and TSA, I enjoy cooking, going on walks, reading, art, and music. I can play 11 instruments so far, such as guitar, saxophone, bassoon, accordion, ect. My core values are happiness, growth, and optimism.

Vice President
TSA, I’m Colby Yakes, and I am a Junior at Hayfield Secondary School, which is located in Northern Virginia, and I will be serving as your 2026-2027 Vice President!
As far as TSA goes this is my fifth year, and ever since my first competition (Prepared Speech), I have loved every single minute of it! Even though at times it can be tedious and even a little bit difficult, overall it provides valuable experience that will carry you far in life. From Challenging Tech, to Mechanical Engineering, to Extemporaneous Speech, everything that I have done in TSA has provided prodigious value to other aspects of my life. I have done all of the 4 of the major TSA competitions (Fall Events, Regionals, Tehcnosphere, & Nationals), and my favorite by a landslide is Technosphere, as the community that Virginia TSA has is incredible, and it is a lot less stressful than Nationals. I look forward to making Technosphere 27’ the best State competition ever, and I can’t wait to see you there!
Outside of TSA I’ve played baseball since I was 3 and travel since I was 8, so that is where I spend the majority of my time. I start in left field on my school’s Varsity team, and I play travel year round. My favorite team is the Padres (undoubtedly better than the Dodgers), but I also like the Baltimore Orioles! I also love Football (my favorite team is the Packers), and College Basketball (my favorite team is SDSU). I also do Varsity Swim & Dive, Varsity Math Team, National Honor Society, and ISEF. I also work as an umpire for a local little league, just to list some of my other extracurriculars. My core values are respect, leadership, and cooperation..

Secretary
Hey Virginia TSA!
My name is Jia Modi, and I am a Junior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science & Technology. I am honored and excited to serve as your 2026-2027 State Secretary! This will be my fifth year in TSA, and I’ve loved every second of it. I’ve served multiple years as a chapter officer for my middle school and high school. Some of my favorite events are Prepared Presentation and Biotechnology Design. My core values are balance and respect.
TSA has given me so many memories and relationships that I will cherish forever. From the late-night event submissions, to many days spent in the convention center, to even running for office, every challenge has made me better and every memory has shaped who I am today. The people I have met, whether advisors or members, have inspired me to push myself and support others. As State Secretary, I hope to spotlight members and their ideas. I’m looking forward to advertising leadership opportunities, and gaining member involvement, whether big or small chapters.
Apart from TSA, you can find me playing tennis or at home with a good book. I’m also a member of the National Speech and Debate association and love music, whether playing the piano or dancing. Hey Virginia TSA!! My name is Raina Gao, a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, and I am honored to serve as your 2026-2027 State Treasurer. This is my fifth year at TSA, and I previously served as my chapter’s and Northern Region’s Sergeant-At-Arms. Some of my favorite events include Digital Video Production, Data Science and Analytics, and Essays on Technology. My core values are optimism, humor, and trustworthiness.
TSA has always been more about the community to me than anything else, and I am so grateful to have met so many people across the state these past few Technospheres! The guidance from mentors, all-nighters with my chapter, and bonds made on leadership teams have made me who I am. This year, I’m looking forward to launching a state-wide fundraising event and continuing to raise more money from sponsorships. I am dedicated to lowering costs for newer chapters.
Outside of TSA, competition math and creative writing have always been huge parts of my life, and you can always find me listening to music, binge-watching a random TV show, or strumming the guitar. Hi Virginia TSA! My name is XingQing Chen and I am a junior at West Springfield High School. This will be my 3rd year in TSA! My core values are loyalty, trustworthiness, and happiness!
I will be your State Reporter for 2026-2027 and I can’t wait to work with everyone! I want to say thank you for all of the love and support that you guys showed me at Technosphere 2025-2026! Just thinking back on the fun conversations and sidequests we had genuinely makes me smile!
As your reporter this year, I want to make sure your voice is shared and that you know exactly what is happening behind the scenes! You can expect frequent updates and newsletters through emails and the Virginia TSA website. My main goal is to provide you with all the crucial information before any of our competitions and conferences! But in the scheme of TSA events, my favorite event is Children’s Stories!
Outside of TSA, you can either find me talking about the most random thoughts or munching on food. I also enjoy watching shows, especially those with drama, and playing video games with my brothers and friends. If you guys have any good show or game recommendations, send them!

Hi Virginia TSA!
I’m Arjun Modi, and I am a Sophomore at West Springfield High School, which is located in the Northern Region, and I will be serving as your 2026-2027 Sergeant-At-Arms!
I have been part of TSA for four years and I am so excited for this year’s competitions. Ever since my first year of TSA, I have loved every single second of it and it has become one of the most rewarding parts of my life. I have competed in Prepared Speech, Prepared Presentation, Extemporaneous Presentation, Senior Solar Sprint, and many more. Even though at times it can be hard and tedious, the experience that you get is unforgettable and will help you develop future skills that are valuable. From Challenging Tech to Senior Solar Sprint, to Extemporaneous Speech, everything I have done in TSA has provided technical, leadership, communication, and collaboration skills that I will carry on for the rest of my life. I have participated in all 4 major competitions(Fall Virtual, Regional, State, and National events) and my favorite by far has been Technosphere as it is the place to meet more people across Virginia and make new connections. I look forward to making Technosphere 27 the best State competition experience for all members and chapters ever, and I can’t wait to see you there!

Historian
Hello, Virginia! My name is Spencer Stout, and I am honored to serve as your 2026–2027 State Historian while proudly representing the Valley Region.
I am a senior at Wilson Memorial High School, and I can hardly believe that this is my seventh and final year in TSA. I worked on team events like Board Game Design and Architectural Model, where collaboration was key. I pushed myself out of my comfort zone when I competed on Chapter Team. I especially loved competing in Photography. Although it was not always easy, I grew both in skill and resilience. The memories I have made, the opportunities I have experienced, and the people I have met along the way have made every moment worthwhile.
As your State Historian, one of my primary goals is to help members preserve the memories they create with their chapters, competitors, and friends. I will strive to improve communication by streamlining information shared with members and advisors, helping reduce confusion while keeping everyone informed. Additionally, I want to strengthen connections between current members and TSA alumni, allowing members to learn from their experiences while keeping the TSA spirit alive long after graduation. I am committed to documenting the work and accomplishments of our state officer team so that our efforts are recognized and can serve as a resource for future leaders.
Outside of TSA, I am involved in my school’s FFA chapter and ASL Club. I attend the Valley Career and Technical Center, where I study veterinary technology. In my free time, I play piano, compete in travel volleyball, take college-level ASL courses, and care for my five pets. Dedication, creativity, and compassion are values that guide me in everything I do.
As State Historian, I look forward to helping the Valley continue to ROCK while working alongside this year’s state officer team to help all of Virginia rock, too!

Hi Virginia!! My name is Lizzy Mosley, I’m a Junior at Lightridge High School in Northern Virginia. I am so excited and absolutely honored to serve as your 2026-2027 state parliamentarian!
I joined TSA in the beginning of my freshman year and this now marks my third year in the organization. Being in TSA has been such an impactful part of my life. I love competing in events such as CAD Engineering and Fashion Design and hanging out at competitions with my friends. I have loved meeting people at regionals and Technosphere, the community might be my favorite part of this organization and I cannot wait to see you guys at competitions.
Outside of TSA I am a member of my school’s rocketry and my local airport’s Civil Air Patrol. I’m a huge fan of everything aerospace, specifically airplanes, and I’m currently working on getting my private pilots license. I also really enjoy the outdoors as well, I currently work at a ski resort in the winter and I love hiking in the summer. In my free time I love listening to Ed Sheeran, going out with friends, and 3D printing things for random projects.

Northern Region President
Hello VA TSA!
First of all, I want to express how ecstatic I am to serve as your Northern Region President and represent the Northern Region at the state level. My name is Joie Tran, and I am a proud senior at South County High, ready to serve the TSA Northern Region.
I come from Vietnamese heritage, and I love being connected to my Asian community. At my school, I have participated in fan and lion dance. While in my free time, I teach children martial arts, practice the drums, and play lacrosse. I also assist at nursing homes, which is where I discovered my interest in the medical field. However, I wanted to integrate that passion with technology and engineering.
I have been involved in TSA for two years, and throughout that short time, TSA has encouraged me to grow in ways I could not even imagine. I want to express my gratitude for my South County chapter, classmates, and advisors, who have supported me in my journey. I hope to share that same experience with the entire Northern Region to promote growth, leadership, and STEM education. I became interested in pursuing biomedical engineering which was influenced by one of my favorite TSA events, Biotechnology Design. I learned that finding your community is so important to how you are later shaped, and TSA can be that place. So I encourage you to participate in TSA and to get to know me, other students, and most importantly, the Northern Region. So if you ever see me out and about, I am always down to talk and make new friends!

Hey Virginia TSA! I’m very excited to serve as your South Central Region President and look forward to working toward a successful and impactful year.
As for me, I am a Junior at JR Tucker High School, and have been with TSA for the past 6 years. Above all, I am thankful for the community, events, and competitive spirit of TSA. Personally, I’ve competed in a variety of events, such as dragster, structural, flight, SSS, music production and more.
Outside of TSA I’m an avid golfer, drummer, and business owner. Just as much, I love listening to music and going to the gym with my friends as well. My core values are creativity, trustworthiness, and passion. I hope to elevate the quality of the South Central Region and am eager to work alongside the VA Executive Council to help accomplish our goals. Hello Virginia TSA! My name is Natalie Lasley and I’m thrilled to serve as your Southwest Region President! I am a junior at Abingdon High School and this will be my fourth year in TSA.
Since joining TSA, competitions and conferences have been one of the things I look forward to most with my favorite events being video and chapter team. TSA has been a huge part of my middle and high school experience so far, teaching me more about myself and what I want to do with the rest of my life after school.
Outside of TSA, I play on my school’s varsity golf and softball teams, sing in the Abingdon High School Jazz Choir, act in the school musical, and am active in many other clubs and activities. In my free time, I enjoy running, working out, and expressing my passion for music by singing, playing piano, and playing guitar.
My core values are advancement and curiosity, and I plan to use those to advance the Southwest Region to the best year yet! I’m super excited to represent the Southwest Region on council and even though we may be small, we’re ready to make big strides in TSA! I can’t wait to meet all of you at our next conference!

Hey Virginia TSA!
My name is Charmaine Muganga, and I am so excited to serve as your 2026 – 2027 Tidewater Region President!
I’m a senior at Grassfield High School and a student in the STEM Academy. This will be my fourth year in TSA, and I’ve had the privilege of serving on the regional board every year since I joined.
When I first joined TSA as a freshman, I never expected it to have such a huge impact on my life. Through competitions, leadership opportunities, and meeting members from across Virginia, TSA has helped me become more confident in myself and my abilities. It has pushed me outside of my comfort zone, taught me how to work effectively with others, and helped me develop skills that I know will benefit me long after high school.
One of my favorite things about TSA is that there is something for everyone. Whether you enjoy engineering, design, public speaking, leadership, or teamwork, TSA gives you the opportunity to explore your interests while challenging yourself to grow. Through events like Manufacturing Prototype and Architectural Design, I’ve learned how to think creatively, solve problems, and collaborate with others to bring ideas to life.
As your Tidewater Region President, I want every member to experience the same sense of growth, opportunity, and community that TSA has given me. My goal is to increase participation across our region, strengthen connections between chapters, and help create an environment where every member feels welcomed, supported, and encouraged to succeed. I’m especially excited that we’ll be hosting our regional conference in a new location for the first time in several years, and I can’t wait to help make it an amazing experience for everyone.
Outside of TSA, I enjoy baking, reading science fiction books, and learning about new developments in science and technology. This summer, I’m excited to attend the Summer Governor’s School for Engineering and participate in the Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars program.

Hey Virginia TSA!
I’m Hamza Al Khafaji, a senior at Rocktown High School, and I am excited to serve as your Valley Region TSA President!
For my time in TSA, I can admit that it has quickly become one of the most impactful organizations I’ve been involved in. TSA is one of those organizations where I feel genuinely happy, and more times than not, actually excited to go through the intense labor of either perfecting my Debate on Tech Issues case(s) or figuring out some way to make my Audio Podcast play audio. TSA competitions in general are hard, but they are worthwhile when trying to figure out how to master them through technical skill development, and TSA has helped me develop those technical skills in a sense that they can also be applied in the real world. In the real world, TSA is arguably one of the best activities to involve yourself in to develop skills that I’ve even seen help me become an even better person, and I look forward to helping other people too as the Valley Region President. The friendships, experiences, and opportunities I’ve gained through TSA are things I’ll carry with me long after high school, because seriously, TSA is really fun.
Outside of TSA, I play basketball and chess, both activities I see myself mediocre at, and I love doing research. I’m also a LinkedIn warrior! I love the intersection of fun and STEM, where I find myself doing activities in either or both realms. I also really like to talk, whether that’s with my friends on a call or at a conference where I have to give a speech, so if you ever want to have a chat for no reason at all or learn how to speak professionally for your next speaking engagement, I’m your guy.
As your Valley Region President, I am committed to strengthening our region and ensuring every incredible aspect of it can be even better.
